OFF THE CLOCK
Working in hospitality has taught me that people are surprisingly funny when they think nobody is paying attention. I’ve seen tired people become incredibly friendly over one good meal, couples have entire arguments without saying a word, and someone change their mood completely because their order arrived five minutes late. I think that’s probably why I like observing people. Not judging them, just noticing little things. Outside of work I’m much less social. Give me a comfortable place, something good to watch and a few hours without anyone needing anything from me and I’m completely fine. I’m currently studying accounting remotely, which is probably the least exciting thing I could say about myself, but somehow I don’t mind it. There’s something nice about having a normal, slightly chaotic routine and not needing every part of your life to look impressive from the outside.
MOVIE I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND
There’s a specific kind of movie I secretly enjoy: the one that everyone else would probably turn off after twenty minutes. Nothing happens, the main character looks miserable, half the dialogue makes no sense and the ending somehow makes everything even more confusing. And yet I’ll sit there thinking, “okay… but I need to know what happens.” I don’t even have a favorite genre because my choices depend almost entirely on my mood. One evening I can watch something stupid and funny, the next I’ll choose a three-hour drama where everyone has emotional problems. Sometimes I don’t even finish the movie. I just like finding something that creates a certain feeling. I think that’s the best part about watching films anyway. You can forget the entire plot a week later but still remember one scene, one song or the way a room looked.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I’m Eva. My life is actually pretty normal: I study accounting remotely, work in hospitality, and spend whatever free time I have watching movies or doing absolutely nothing after a long day. I’m not the person who has ten different hobbies and somehow finds time for all of them. Sometimes I’m perfectly happy staying home, putting on something to watch and disappearing from the world for a few hours. I can be quiet when I first meet someone, but once I get comfortable, that usually disappears pretty quickly. I like people who can talk about completely random things without making every conversation feel like an interview. I’m also the type to remember tiny details about people without realizing I’m doing it. I don’t really have a five-year plan yet. For now, I’m studying, working, watching too many movies and figuring things out as I go.
A COMPLETELY USELESS TALENT
I’m very good at remembering things that have absolutely no practical value. I can recognize a movie from a random five-second scene, remember what someone was wearing the first time I met them, or suddenly remember a conversation from months ago because one completely unrelated word reminded me of it. Ask me something important that I actually need to remember and there’s a good chance it disappears immediately. I also have a habit of opening my phone to do one specific thing and somehow ending up watching videos twenty minutes later without remembering what I originally wanted. I’ve accepted that this is probably just how my brain works. At least it makes ordinary days a little more interesting. There’s always some completely unnecessary piece of information taking up space in my head, waiting for the perfect moment to become useful. So far, that moment has not arrived.
